Catalog note / 解説
"Yuzuru-Ha" is a plant and was subject for a famous poem in the classical poem book, "Manyo-shu". The plant has been considered as a good omen because the old leaves drop after the new buds have formed, which indicates the smooth transition of the generation. Hiratsuka used mostly black and white for his works. The white area (negative space) was as important as its counterpart, the strong mass of black area. The interplays of the light and the dark created the rhythms that gave vibrancy to his works.
