Catalog note / 解説
Hiratsuka Unichi was a founding father of the Creative Prints Movement (Sösaku Hanga), in which the artist designed, carved, and printed independently, unlike the earlier traditional ukiyoe collaborative work. This print depicts a monumental stone sculpture of a bodhisattva from the Tang dynasty (618 – 906) in the cliffs outside Datong in northern China. (from Pathway exhibition 1/29/08-)
