Catalog note / 解説

This is a gorgeous woodblock print by noted sosaku hanga printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. It is titled "Winter in Sanzen-in, Kyoto". It depicts a temple during a light snowfall, with just a dusting of snow on the ground, a beautiful effect. Saito's snow scenes are among the finest prints of the 20th century, and this one is a stellar example. There is a tag on the back of the print which says "self-carved, self-printed, Kiyoshi Saito". The print measures about 15 1/4 x 20 3/4 plus full margins. The print is brush-signed lower right, dated '65, and numbered 13/100.
