Thursday, 14 August 2008 Unusual and intriguing chop-signed woodblock print of an abstract still life with flowers or Ichibana arrangement by Japanese artist Kaoru Kawano (1916-1965, biography below). The piece is matted and framed. (Photos show piece both in and out of matte.) Kawano’s chop signature, approx.?” square in red ink, appears in the margin on the lower right side of the paper under the matte. Image is in very good condition and measures approx. 4-1/4” wide by approx. 6” high. Paper is in very good condition and measures approx. 6-3/4” wide by 8-3/4” high.
