The history behind this print- Goyo designed one print with the venerable publisher Watanabe and then decided to publish his subsequent works privately (including this design). He only made 14 print designs in his career and Goyo's prints immediately commanded high prices in the market. At the time of his death, Goyo left several works uncompleted and his wood blocks for the completed prints were intact until the Kanto earthquake. His family published his uncompleted designs and reissued some prints of his previous works from the original blocks.
