Catalog note / 解説
"Lieutenant Commander Yamanaka, Chief Gunner of Our Ship Fuji, Fights Fiercely in the Naval Battle at the Entrance to Port Arthur". The Fuji was a modern 12,000 ton battle ship built at The Thames Iron Works in Britain in 1897. The modern man-of-war was clearly superior to the old fashioned Russian ships. The Russo-Japanese war prints were much rarer than Sino-Japanese war prints. By then, the woodblock prints for the purpose of news reporting were largely replaced by other mass-production methods.
