Catalog note / 解説
"Shinjuku Gyoen: Onshitsu". Gyoen used to be a private mansion belonging to Lord Naito, a "daimyo" (feudal lord) of the Edo era. The site was transformed to the imperial garden in 1906. After World War II, it was designated as a national garden and opened to the public. This design depicting one of the small greenhouses in the garden is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo.
