Catalog note / 解説
The dramatisation of the Russian fleet flagship Petropavlovsk sunk by cannon fire from Japanese warship squadron led by admiral Togo in Port Arthur. (Actually the Petropavlovsk struck mine off Port Arthur and sunk almost immediately killing the commander of the Russian Pacific Fleet, admiral Makarov, and the most of sailors aboard). The Russo-Japanese war prints were much rarer than Sino-Japanese war prints. By then, the woodblock prints for the purpose of news reporting were largely replaced by other mass-production methods.
