Enya Hangan and Ko no Morono in Act II (above) and Oboshi Yuranosuke and Eny Hangan in Act IV ( below) of the Kabuki play Chushingura performed at the Ichimura Theatre Upper half: within the shogun’s palace it is a grave offence to draw one’s sword, but Hangan is so insulted by Morono that he can bear it no longer. Slashing at the elder lord, Hangan is only prevented from killing him by his retainer Honzo Lower half: As punishment, Hangan is ordered to death by ritual suicide by disembowelment. With his dying breath he tells his chief retainer Yuranosuke to avenge his death Materials: Woodblock print on paper
