Catalog note / 解説
Shötei Hokuju was one of Hokusai's early students. He is known to work during the Bunsei era (1801- 30). He succeeded the Western etchinig style which Hokusai also learned and later created his own unique style of painting. As his master did, Hokuju effectively incorporates the Western perspective and chiaroscuro (the use of light and shades) into his works. (from Hokusai His Students exhibition 1/30/2007-)
