Catalog note / 解説

Tuesday, 16 September 2008 Exceptionally rare and highly sought after color woodblock print by well-known British printmaker Elizabeth Keith (1887-1956). Keith, essentially self-taught, traveled to Asia in 1915, exhibiting watercolors in Tokyo in 1919. Famed shin hanga publisher Watanabe admired the paintings and in 1920, based on an Elizabeth Keith watercolor, published Keith's first color woodblock print East Gate Seoul, Moonlight. Published in an edition of 30, the print is one of Keith's rarest and most admired. Please visit the "Viewing Japanese Prints" website for a more extensive discussion of the print:
