Catalog note / 解説
From the woodblock print series, "Hanga Kyoto Ju-ni Kei" (Twelve Views of Kyoto). Restaurant Sumiya in Shimabara. It is the finest example of "ageya (fine, luxurious restaurant) style architecture" which was built more than 250 years ago. It was designated to a National Cultural Treasure in 1952 by Japanese government. Taizo is a famous dyer who had numerous awards and solo-exhibitions all over the world. He has made several woodblock prints. His prints have distinctive colors and style which apparently stem out from his experience as a dyer.
