Catalog note / 解説

From the Sosaku Hanga folio, "Kitsutsuki" (The name means Woodpecker, a metaphorical woodblock print artist chiseling wood little by little). Vol. 1. "Shoka" (The Early Summer). Two persons stroll under the canopies of large trees at a side of a path. Yamaguchi commented on this design, "I visited my friend in Kamakura in June. It was a path to Engaku Temple. The faint sound of ocean waves, the soft sun shine, the fragrance of the new greens; I could not express enough how beautiful the nature was. This design was from the sketch I had made on that trip.".
