Wednesday, 2 November 2005 Shin Hanga: Pensive Bijin Artist: Keigetsu Kikuchi Format: Large oban tate-e: 20" x 14.75" Subject: A portrait of the Heroine Koharu, deep in thought, holding her tobacco pipe, by the artist Keigetsu Kikuchi, 1879-1955, who was born in Nagano prefecture with the given name Kikuchi Kanji. He traveled in Europe during the twenties with two of his art colleagues. Back in Japan he became a teacher of Japanese print art at the Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Crafts and at the Kyoto City School of Painting.
