"Fujo Kajitsu Zu" (Picture of a Fruit on a Cloth) from the sosaku-hanga folio, "Hanga" Vol. 14. Sakuichi Fukazawa stated about this print, "I made this design because I was attracted by the great quality of Japanese paper. I wanted to express the paper space effectively by the simple scheme of the red and the yellow, and the composition. First, I used "Kan-suki", "Sankaku" chisels to carve the line-block for the shape of the cloth which was the most important, and the outlines of the fruit, shadow, leaf and stem. Then I made the color block for the cloth. I made the block for the fruit and the leafy stem at the last. I only separated the colors on the same block when I printed the fruit. I…
