Wednesday, 2 November 2005 Shin Hanga: Bijin with Drum Artist: Keigetsu Kikuchi Format: Dai oban tate-e: 20" x 14.75" Subject: A double sized portrait of a young bijin seated before two ehon, playing a hand drum. A scarce design by the artist Keigetsu Kikuchi 1879-1955, who was born in Nagano prefecture with the given name Kikuchi Kanji. He traveled in Europe during the twenties with two of his art colleagues. Back in Japan he became a teacher of Japanese print art at the Kyoto City School of Fine Arts and Crafts and at the Kyoto City School of Painting.
