Catalog note / 解説
From the series, "Taisho Shinsai Gashu" (Pictures of Taisho Earthquake). "Kaigenrei Ka no Manseibashi" (Mansei Bridge under the Marshal Law). "Great Kanto Earthquake" September 1st in 1923, the massive earthquake jolted Kanto area. The collapsing building and the inferno followed the earthquake killed 140,000 people. It devastated Tokyo and the surrounding area. This one depicted a police station on Mansei bridge on the Kanda river. After the earthquake, the Japanese government declared the martial law to establish the law and order; and help to restore the railroad, post, telephone and streets.
