Saturday, 15 April 2006 Up for auction is an original watercolor on paper by Tokusaburo Kobayashi 1884-1949. He is known for his prolific, well executed landscapes mainly done in watercolor. I am not an art expert but having an interest in Japanese art I recognized the painter's name when I found the painting at a local estate sale several years ago. I have seen his paintings sold by several auction houses in the United States during the past few years. This painting measures 10 1/2" by 17" including its frame and features sailing vessels in a harbour. The size of the watercolor view itself is 6 3/8" by by 12 5/8".
