Sara Lee’s work explores how we respond physically and emotionally to changing environments and in particular to changing light and weather. Morning is a series of woodcut prints exploring the enigmatic light where night merges into day, made using the traditional Japanese woodblock technique. Watercolour is applied to blocks with specialist brushes, and then printed by hand onto Japanese hand-made paper. Each image is printed from four blocks and has nine separate layers. Journeying through landscape, and making site-specific responses to that experience, is central to Lee’s practice.
