Great Kanto Earthquake - Fire on the Bridge

From the series, "Taisho Shinsai Gashu" (Pictures of Taisho Earthquake). "Kyouryou no Ensho; Honjo Homen." (Fire on the Bridges around Honjo District). People around the banks of Sumida river were trying to escape to other side of the banks not knowing the other side was engulfed by fire, also. But the people already on the bridge could not return because more and more people came to cross the bridge. Many people on the bridge had to jump or fall into the river. The ones who could not swim were drown, the ones who could swim were burned by the boiling water and the intense fire on the banks. These wooden bridges were burned down causing huge casualties.
