Catalog note / 解説
Four social classes in the Edo society. From the top, "Shi" (Samurai warrior class), "No" (Farmer class), "Ko" (Craftsman class) and "Sho" (Merchant class). Although the merchant class was pushed into the lowest class as it handled money, they were actually the better off than the proud but poor Samurai and hard working but poor farmers. These social classes were officially abolished after Meiji Restoration.
