From ancient scroll painting in Imperial Household, "Shohtoku-taishi Gazo" (Picture of Prince Shotoku). Prince Shotoku created the first Japanese constitution based on his Buddhism belief. He conquered many native tribes to establish the central government. This portrait of Prince Shotoku was very familiar to the Japanese because it was depicted on one of Japanese paper currencies.
