Catalog note / 解説
This print is from the series, Yoshitoshi's Courageous Warriors published in 1883. Hojo Takatoki was the ninth and last of the Hojo clan regents who ruled Japan on behalf of the emperor during the Kamakura Period. Takatoki was feeble-minded, vicious, and debauched. At the height of his debauchery, his palace was supposedly infested with tengu, who mocked and attacked him. Margins on both sides slightly trimmed. Examples in The Bizarre Imagery of Yoshitoshi by Keyes and Kuwayama, and Yoshitoshi the Splendid Decadent by Segi.
