Catalog note / 解説
Both this print and the following print (HAA#30223) depict historic annual costume parades in the Gion district of Kyoto, during shrine festivals (in this case, for the Gion Shrine). The celebrations often featured waitresses, geisha, and courtesans adorned in fanciful dress, at times performing skits or pantomimes about well-known figures from contemporary society, Kabuki Theater, history, and legend. (from Kamigata-e exhibition 4/1/08-)
