Catalog note / 解説

Colour woodblock print, oban, from a series illustrating great stage successes (‘Oatari kyogen’). The kabuki actor Ichikawa Danjuro VII as Kan Shojo, (also called Sugawara no Michizane), in the play ‘Sekai no hana Sugawara denju’ by Tsuruya Nanboku IV; performed at the Ichimura-za in the 11th month of 1814 (Bunka 11).
