Catalog note / 解説
The idyllic view in this uchiwa-e (rigid fan print) design by Hiroshige is of the coast of Kanazawa in Kanagawa Prefecture. Female guests at a seaside inn are enjoying the tranquil vista of two small boats crossing the sea in the distance. The dark form visible above the kneeling woman is the island of Nojima, one of the celebrated 'Eight Views of Kanazawa', while on the right, at the top of an almost vertical cliff is a seaside pavilion with a commanding view. Materials: Colour print from woodblocks
