Catalog note / 解説
This <i>uchiwa-e</i>, or rigid fan print, design by Hiroshige is one of an untitled series of four in the collection of the V&A. The ribmarks visible on its surface are evidence that it was salvaged from a made-up fan. The cool shades of blue are particularly suitable for an item intended for use during the hot months of summer. The bush warbler, here perched on a plum tree silhouetted against the moon, is a classic symbol of early spring. Materials: Colour print from woodblocks
