Artist: Hiroshige I Format: Oban yoko-e: each sheet: 9.75" x 14.75" Subject: This set of 8 snow scenes in the Eastern Capital was published in 1928 by Shotaro Sato of Kyoto. The original black and white drawings were apparently exported to Europe and ended up in the hands of a distinguished French judge and collector Emile Javal. Mr. Sato paid a visit to Mr. Javal in 1927 and obtained permission to print the set. Having procured craftsmen considered to be the best at that time, the block-cutter, Yujiro Maeda and the printer, Gasen Oiwa, he set about the task.
