Ancient and Modern Dramas Illustrated: # 8 Artist: Hiroshige I Format: Oban tate-e: 14.5" x 9.75" Subject: Karukaya Doshin Tsukushi no Iyezuto: the title of a play written by Namiki Sosuke (1694-1750). The priest Karukaya Doshin meeting his son Ishidomaru on Mount Koya, but refrains from revealing his identity to him. See Stewart 'Subjects Portrayed in Japanese Color Prints' page 310 # 8. An unidentified collector's seal on verso. Publisher: Sanoki Date: 1848 Condition: Fine colors. A little worn and thinned at base. Minor damages, creases, marks and soils. Traces of album backing paper on verso. Generally fairly good state of preservation. Impression: Very good impression.
