Catalog note / 解説
Here a group of women help a bride perform the ironaoshi, or ‘colour alteration’, ritual. Shiromuku, meaning ‘pure white’, would be worn by the bride for the procession to the groom’s home and the sacred ceremony. She would then change into a richly decorated outer kimono for the banquet. This ironaoshi ritual was often repeated, requiring a set of lavish garments. Materials: Woodblock print on paper
