Colour woodblock print, oban tate-e. Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Kamiya Iemon, a Ronin turned paper umbrella maker, looking at a lantern in which he sees the ghost of his wife Oiwa, as portrayed by Ichikawa Kodanji IV, in the play 'Atari mimasu yotsuya no kikigaki' at the Kawarazaki theater in the ninth month of Kaei 1 (1848).
