Catalog note / 解説
The central figure, Döji Yoshiharu, is depicted battling a giant boar in the mountains. A group of warriors (among the trees to the right) watches this dramatic moment. While the exact circumstances surrounding the publication of this print are unknown, it possibly portrays a scene from a Kabuki play or from a popular novel. The protagonist is in a position of frozen intensity; the gesture is reminiscent of mie, powerful poses central to the performance of Kabuki.
