Catalog note / 解説
This print shows Kakkyo and his wife, startled by the discovery of gold in the ground. Poverty-stricken, Kakkyo was unable to care for his elderly mother. Although he occasionally found food for her, she always shared this food with her hungry grandson. As a desperate gesture of filial piety, the couple dug a hole, determined to dispose of their child, but instead found a pot of gold. From then on, their house prospered.
