Catalog note / 解説
Colour woodblock print, oban. The kabuki actor Otani Tomoemon II in an unidentified role, seemingly as a samurai footman (yakko) with his two swords, standing beneath a maple tree and holding a third sword in one hand. The role is possibly that of Shinzan no Yahei, in reality Ichihara Kidomaru, in the play 'Seiwa Genji nidai no yumitori' by Katsu Hyozo I (Tsuruya Nanboku IV); performed at the Nakamura-za in the 11th month of 1805.
