Saturday, 18 June 2005 Nakamura Utaemon as Shunkan Artist: Toyokuni I Format: Oban Diptych: each sheet 14.75" x 10" approx Subject: A portrait of the actor in character in the snow, gazing at his reflection in a hand mirror. This design must have had a great impact on the Kabuki artists of the time; many made later copies of the image, copying this print almost line for line; see Keyes, The Theatrical World of Osaka Prints, page 233, #224. Publisher: Shimizuya Date: c.1808 Condition: Virtually full size. Japanese album backing. Two wormholes. Minor rubbing, soils marks and flaws. Generally good state of preservation. Colour: Very good Impression: Fine with gauffrage
