Catalog note / 解説
"Tokaido Goju-san Tsugi no Uchi" (Fifty-Three Stations along the Tokaido) Ishikawa Tomoichi on Futakawa station. This Tokaido series was commonly called, "Yakusha Tokaido" (Kabuki Actor's Tokaido). They were actually meant to be the bust portrait of kabuki actors whose names were not mentioned because of the censorship banning the luxury or pleasure items. The portrait was depicted with a beautiful landscape background. The series was very popular and more than 150 designs for many dupicate stations and in-between stations were produced. The background landscape design was said to be "serial".
