Catalog note / 解説
This print is signed Shunrö in the lower left, identifying it with Hokusai’s period working in the Katsukawa studio. The inscription in the upper right provides the names of the two actors, Ichikawa Monnosuke II in the role of the hero, and Arashi Ryüzö II, who specialized in playing villains. Both actors were regularly featured in prints, particularly Ichikawa Monnosuke II, for whom numerous portrayals by Katsukawa School artists survive. “Hokusai’s Summit: Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” (09/24/2009-01/06/2010) ******************************
