Tuesday, 9 September 2008 Thirty-two Aspects of Manners and Customs: #8 Looking Hot Artist: Yoshitoshi Format: Oban tate-e: 15" x 10.25" approx Subject: A housewife of the Bunsei era (1818-30) being treated with burning moxa; one of the masterpieces from the series Fuzoku Sanjuniso. Yoshitoshi is considered to be one of the greatest artists of the Meiji era. He started his career as a pupil of Kuniyoshi. Yoshitoshi produced a number of famous print series during his lifetime - the most famous of which are '100 Aspects of the Moon', '32 Aspects of Manners and Customs' - a series about beautiful women from different eras and his 'New Forms of 36 Ghosts' series.
