Catalog note / 解説
Number 68. Moon of the Southern Seal. Printed 1888. Engraver: Enkatsu. Seal: Taiso. Kannon (One who hears the sounds of the world), the Buddhist goddess of mercy, is seated on a small rocky island (Potakaka) off the southern coast of India, which was one of her dwelling places on earth. She meditates calmly amidst the turmoil of the waves (ie, the world); her aura shines in contrast to the dark clouds over the moon. Printed on the full sheet. Excellent color and condition.
