A conventionally beautiful woman dressed in luxurious Chinese costume stands by a flowering plum tree under a perfect full moon. She is the Spirit of the Plum Tree, who appeared to Zhao Shixiong, a Chinese poet of the Sui dynasty (589-618). One fresh spring morning, Zhao climbed the slopes of the sacred mountain of Luofu in southern China to admire the flowering plum trees there.
