Catalog note / 解説
This artwork was created by Taiso Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) the last creative genius of woodblock prints of Meiji era. The print offered here belongs to the series “Tsuki hyakushi” (One Hundred Aspects of the Moon) which was issued in 1888. It’s probably the most famous series created by the artist. The print I’m offering here depicts a spirit of the plum tree visited Chinese poet Zhao Shixiong (the Sui Dynasty (589-618)) in his dream. Oban size 14 1/2" by 10". Signed Yoshitoshi-ga and sealed Taiso. Publisher Akiyama Buemon. Great impression. Original condition. The print is not trimmed or setdown. Has full margins. Good color and registration.
