Catalog note / 解説
In 1177 the head of the Taira Clan Kiyomori became convinced that the bonze Shunkan, Yasuyori and Naritsune were plotting against him and exiled them to Kikaishima -- Devil's Island. After intercepting poems written by Yasuyori to his mother, Kiyomori pardoned him and his friend Naritsune, but not Shunkan. Here Shunkan pleads with boatman to take him, too, to no avail, and is left on the island, calling after Yasuyori and Naritsune. Framed with silk mat under ultraviolet protective plexiglas.
