"Seikanron no Zu". SAIGO Takamori (standing in the middle) and his followers quit the government position after their idea of forcing Korea to open its border to Japan was turned down by other high ranking officials in 1873. The historical fact was that Saigo wanted only the diplomatic solution with Korea but ITAGAKI Taisuke (left) and others wanted to use military force in order to divert the attention of the disgranted samurai class to overseas.
