Catalog note / 解説
From the series, "Dainippon Butsu-san Zukai" (Pictures of Products and Industries of Japan). People are cutting ice cubes from the moat of Goryokaku in Hokkaido. Ice cubes about 75kg in weight were stored into a box, insulated with saw dusts, and shipped to Yokohama or Tokyo harbors. There, they were sealed in ice storages until they would be sold in very high prices in the hot summer months.
