Saturday, 18 November 2006 Rare Offering: Two of the four seasons (Spring & Autumn) prints from the 1949 series: Fujiya Hotel, Miyanoshita, Japan by Kawase Hasui, published pre 1957 (6mm seal) by Watanabe and most likely first edition of these prints. The prints are in pristine condition having been kept in a portfolio, never framed since they were purchased by a military family stationed in Japan post WWII reconstruction period. Note the American flag above the hotel in the Spring and Autumn. The colors are as strong as they were the day they were printed. The paper has toned to an old cream-tan shade and is even throughout.
