Catalog note / 解説
A Beauty Standing in Front of the Tagawaya, by Keisai Eisen (1791-1848) This stoop shouldered, thick necked woman wearing iridescent greenish lipstick seems somehow abnormal. The women depicted by Eisen share this kind of expression. Effectively creating a tall format by taking two of the normal size sheets for woodblock prints and stacking them on top of each other, this print is an excellent example of Eisen's beauty prints with their vivid colors and restrained expression of his own special virulent quality
