Snow Overnight at Shinobugaoka, by Keisai Eisen, (1791-1848) While we can blithely mention the Eight Views of Edo, there was no specific set of scenes for Edo as there was for the Omi Eight Views or the original Eight Views of the Xiao and Xiang in China. But it seems that the pond at Shinobazu was so famous that it frequently appeared in the different groupings of eight scenes of Edo. Here we can see a snowy morning scene, people are shoveling snow in the foreground. The manner of depiction clearly shows an awareness of western methods of perspective
