Catalog note / 解説
View of Magome Station from a Mountain Pass, by Keisai Eisen (17971-1848) Reaching the top of a mountain pass, a new scenery, unlike the previous valley's, spreads before your eyes. That is the nature of mountain passes. A new fabulous view is around every corner. And that's why enterprising shopkeepers have set up their tea stand, or rest stop at just that superb viewing spot. One traveler stops to tie a straw sandal string that has loosened, another lifts up his head for a view across the valley. The distant mountains have been depicted in simple black ink and indigo ink silhouettes.
