Catalog note / 解説
""There were many brothel districts in the city of Edo. These unlicensed areas were known as okabasho, and one of them, Yamashita, was located at the foot of the hill at Ueno, which is the present vicinity of Japan Railway's Ueno Station. A courtesan welcomes her customer who is visiting in spite of the snow."" (Tadashi Kobayashi, Edo Beauties in Ukiyo-e prints, 1994)
