Catalog note / 解説

From the series, "Rikukai Gunjin Komei kan" (List of the Famous Names in the Japanese Army and Navy). Army Lieutenant General Katsura Taro (1848 - 1913), the commander of the 3rd division. Later, around Russo - Japanese war period, he became the Japanese prime minister, and guided Japan into the victory. He was known as, "Niko - Pon" prime minister. His style, "nikkori warau" (smile) and "kata wo 'pon' to tataku" (tap the listener's shoulder lightly) carried him long ways in the complicated personal maneuvers in the political scenes.
